McCoy Schering Mortar & PestleAdvertising Coricidin
The Schering pharmacy company, makers of Coricidin, in 1963 began to give a mortar & pestle to pharmacists to use in an advertising display. Each year they used a different design & shape. These were made of a metal alloy. Between 1966 and 1970, a ceramic version of the mortar was also made by the McCoy pottery, and included a pestle. This mortar is in the familiar McCoy shade of green. It is 5” tall and has a top diameter of 5”. One side says Cosmas & Damian, 350 AD, and the RX symbol in relief. The other side also says Cosmas and Damian, 350 AD and pictures 2 men in relief. Around the base are the words secundum artum. The cork on the base is ink stamped with the Shering logo. The pestle is brass, is 51/4” long and has the word Coricidin in relief.
