Rookwood Art Pottery Flower Petal Shaped Bowl

By the 1950s, the Rookwood Pottery was only operating a few days each month, and they were trying different glazes. This piece, date 1951, has a gray high-gloss finish. A quick glance gives an impression of a solid color, but as you look closely you can see many shadings, along with a stippled center. The mold number for this petal-shaped bowl is #6132. It has a 7 1/8” diameter and is about 3 ½” tall. It was designed by Rookwood’s premier designer, Kataro Shirayamadani. It’s a lovely piece and also still a very functional one. There are no chips, cracks or defects.
