Burger’s Ballads, Moritz Retzsch Illustrations Book

Printed in Boston in 1873.

This book is titled Outlines to Burger’s Ballads, Designed and Engraved by Moritz Retzsch. The sub-title is “With Burger’s Text, Explanations and Biographical Notices.” It was printed in Boston by Roberts Brothers in 1873.

The glued binding has come apart, so the pages are loose. The fabric cover was probably purple all over once, but it is faded now. The lettering and design are gold. As a book, it’s in bad shape, but the text of the three ballads, Lenora, The Lay of the Brave Man, and The Paster’s Daughter of Taubenham, is included, followed by a total of 15 illustrated pages. Ten are in very good condition and three fair condition, while two are in poor condition.
